3-Sport Standout Jax Leatherwood named Boys Athlete of the Year
The 6-foot-8 Leatherwood led the Scripps Ranch Falcons to the State Division 2-A football championship with a dramatic final drive that beat Santa Clara Wilcox. After joining the basketball team late, the Falcons caught fire and beat Napa Justin-Siena to win the State Division IV championship. In volleyball, Scripps Ranch finished second in the Western League, beat Torrey Pines twice in the San Diego Section Open Division double-elimination playoffs before losing to eventual champion Cathedral Catholic. Scripps Ranch lost its first-round match in the Division II Southern California Regional to eventual champion Upland.
